The difference between wit and humor
Humor and wit, are two different kinds of skills used by various people across the earth, in which it is possible to distinguish between them. To understand the difference between wit and humor, it is important to know the full meaning of each of these words. Although, people consider them to be of similarities, it still remains that there is a clear distinction between these two words. First, ‘wit’ is defined to be the keen inteligence possessed by an individual, while humor is the quality a person has, of being amusing. Although these two are used as devices used in art works, wit and humor are indeed not similar to each other.
Wit, is simply the ability to use words or ideas in fast and amusing ways. It is also understood to be keen inteligence, talent, or sharpness of the mind. A wity person is smart, inteligent, sharp, and can handle problems or situations in a way that it arauses amusement in the ears of the Listener. Although this makes the Listener to fill amused, excited, it is not always funny, appealing. In other cases, wit can some times be used to criticize, outline the errors, flaws of another person, in an amusing manner. Cases like this, the person is not directly attacked by the wity individual, but rather is criticized by words. Such people use their smart minds to amuse, while at the same time emphasizing the mistakes, errors of another.
However, humor is simply defined as the quality, ability of being funny. Situations or instances happen to people across the planet, some of these cases, most times makes you laugh. This may be because you pronounced a word wrongly, slipped and fell on the floor, lots more. Humor just not happen in situations alone, you can also laugh from reading a book, watching a television program, listening to another person. When you recall memories of such cases, you tend to laugh, with this in mind, humor can therefore be understood as a feeling.
As mentioned before, humor is a feeling, that is why you laugh when you hear, see something amusing. While wit is concerned with keen inteligence, and the ability to use phrases to create amusement, humor is simply the quality of being funny. Many are of the belief that wit and humor are similar, but it’s clear that they are different from each other. Although there are some connections between these two, they are not the same. Another way to differentiate them, is that wit is a form of smart, inteligent humor.
It means that wit uses words that are smart, and usually funny. While, humor is the ability to be provoked into laughter. Interms of their nature, wit uses sharpness while humor uses feelings. Wit always display inteligence, humor in some cases do not display such. Humor is not usually used for criticism, whereas wit can be used to criticize other people. Bearing this in mind, wit and humor are not similar to each other, in terms of nature.
